Our generation has realized that almost all daily human needs can be met without leaving the home, causing many human interactions to be obsolete. Physical communities are disappearing everyday while our reliance on technology is creating a rapid growth in online communities. But can the same technology that helps us meet our needs remotely when we have money help us do the same in person when we are broke?

From Executive Producer Zach Galifianakis, this documentary follows 29-year-old Joseph Garner in his  quest to see if he could survive solely on the support of the 21st century’s new town square: Craigslist. He conducts a living experiment to to see whether a person in need could find ways to get by without any money—solely by connecting through online communities.

No money. No contacts in his phone. Aside from basic necessities (a pre-paid cel phone, wireless internet card, the clothes on his back and a toothbrush) and a camera man, Joe isolates himself. He traveled around the country for 31 days in December and relied solely on the kindness of strangers he found through Craigslist – from a dominatrix in Chicago to Hurricane Katrina survivors in New Orleans.

Through his explorations, Joe gained insights into our country’s collective psyche and his experiences – from the harshest challenges to awe-inspiring experiences – raise questions about who we are as a society and where we are headed.
